Make It Cheaper is ‘Most Trusted’ by SMEs buying energy
London-based business cost-savers also win 'SME Consumer Champion' at inaugural energy awards ceremony.
Make It Cheaper has been named as Britain's 'Most Trusted' source of advice for small businesses by The Energy Live Consultancy Awards (TELCA). Make It Cheaper also won the title of 'SME Consumer Champion' at last Thursday's (27th June) inaugural awards ceremony, held at the London Film Museum in London's County Hall.
The TELCA awards, which set the benchmark for the energy consultancy sector, are split into two categories to reflect how the market is structured: Industrial & Commercial (I&C) and Small Business (SME). Representing 50,000 SMEs in the UK, Make It Cheaper was recognised as the leader in its field for the work it has carried out over the past six years to reduce costs for its customers. For example, over £300 million has been saved by businesses using its free energy price comparison service. Once customers of Make It Cheaper, these businesses are then assisted with their annual energy supplier renewals to avoid being trapped by expensive 'rollover' contracts.
Entrants were shortlisted following a rigorous judging process of two rounds. The final winners were picked by an independent judging panel chaired by ex-Head of Energy Management at Marks & Spencer, Mervyn Bowden and including Angela Knight, CEO of trade body Energy UK and Louise Kingham, CEO of the Energy Institute.
According to Mervyn Bowden:
"All the awards were very hotly contested so to win two separate awards with this level of high quality competition reflects great credit on the organisations concerned."
On being presented with the two awards, Jonathan Elliott, managing director of Make It Cheaper, said:
"As a business that always fights for a fair deal and acts with total impartiality to put customers first, it's fabulous to be recognised like this. Being trusted as the go-to brand for small businesses across a number of their needs, including help in buying their energy, is the primary reason for Make It Cheaper to exist."
Robert Sands, Head of Third Party Sales at npower and headline sponsor of TELCA, added:
"It is easy to see why many SMEs seek to save time and resources in researching the best energy tariffs and products for their business by using the services of a broker. SMEs need to be sure they are getting the best advice. The Energy Live Consultancy Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and reward best practice in the market. This is crucial for delivering the high standards of service busy SMEs should receive, so they can crack on and focus on running their business."

"We get lots of calls from companies and comparison services looking to gain our business. Most of them are dismissed due to their lack of professionalism and ability to gain trust over the phone. However I believe Make It Cheaper are working on our behalf to get the best deal and swap suppliers in the most efficient way. Staff are friendly, not too pushy and explain the options well."

It's always the easiest way to get the contracts transferred. The best part is that with one click we were opted out of running contracts. It minimises your risks of being forced into new contracts."
Ian Martin at The Clan Armstrong Trust in Canonbie:
"You are the one business that I feel talks from the heart with the truth. Many, many other companies don't give the detail that you do."
Paula Vine at Ultimate Contracting in Ascot:
"No nonsense service recognising that as a small company having to deal with utility services is precious time away from my own business matters, you instantly put me at ease by your professional yet friendly service. You guided me through the process thoroughly and took the stress out of ensuring that I had interpreted my new provider's contract details correctly. All in all very good service which I will definitely be looking to use again!"
Stephen Whiting at Halfway House in Edinburgh:
"Very personable and helpful 'consultant' I discussed my situation and needs with for my small business. He was most helpful, explaining who you were, how he could help and what my best options were. What impressed me most was when I said I was going to check back with my original supplier (armed with the new cheaper quote you had given me..), he didn't try to badger me or dissuade me. Happy to say the original company couldn't compete and I was able to give you the business of swapping supplier..! I genuinely had an excellent experience with your company and would most certainly recommend you to friends and colleagues. The consultant couldn't have been more friendly or helpful… first rate service..!"
