Make It Cheaper hosted a 'Save Money, Make Money' local business networking event in Twickenham yesterday, featuring a Q&A session with local MP Vince Cable. Twickenham-area business owners had the opportunity to find out more about Make It Cheaper and the importance of getting into the savings habit, make new local business connections, and ask Dr Cable about small business topics. Some of the issues addressed included the difficulty of getting bank loans as well as government supported business coaching schemes. Dr Cable suggested that businesses had to look beyond the High Street for access to finance and described the demise of Business Link before talking enthusiastically about a new scheme called Growth Accelerator that offers coaching to businesses at a local level.
Chris Cole, managing director of Make It Cheaper, added: "When I was growing my first business, I was lucky enough to be mentored by a guy called Martyn Phillips who is now the CEO of B&Q. In my mind, that kind of experience is something that every young entrepreneur should have access to."Grant Thornton's Peter Brown, one of Growth Accelerator's 800 strong team of Coaches was also at the event. Peter said: "Often it helps to talk to someone who's been on the same journey that your business is destined. Our network provides that and keeps you company along the way. At other times you just need pointing the right direction and told where you can find help at the right time - like the best place for small businesses to outsource the management of their utility contracts for free."
