Business price comparison service, Make It Cheaper, has been shortlisted for the 2010 Growing Business Awards (Young Company of the Year category), supported by the voice of British business, the CBI, alongside Real Business magazine.
The Growing Business Award is one of a string of accolades that Make It Cheaper is in the running for this year, including the National Business Awards and the National Customer Service Awards. The Young Company category identifies new companies (which started trading after April 2006) that are challenging their sector and have the potential to be significant players in the future. Described by Real Business magazine as UK's future superstar businesses, online pharmacy Chemist Direct scooped the prize last year.
Based in Waterloo, Make It Cheaper offers free and independent advice to businesses on reducing the cost of their utility bills. It handles over 2,000 enquiries a week from businesses who either call Make It Cheaper direct or are recommended through its partnerships with the major domestic price comparison sites (such as GoCompare, Moneysupermarket and uSwitch) or business membership organisations (such as The Law Society). By switching companies on to the lowest rates and then earning a commission from suppliers as it introduces new customers, Make It Cheaper saves UK businesses a combined £100 million a year as well as reaching an annual turnover itself of £7 million.
Not only has Make It Cheaper become the UK's leading expert in business price comparison but has also branched out internationally with an identical service now in Australia and more countries planned for 2011.
The Growing Business Awards, which this year takes place on November 25, are attended by many of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, including Theo Paphitis, Sir John Madejski, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Peter Jones, Julie Meyer, Linda Bennett, Bill Gates, Sir Philip Green, Duncan Bannatyne and John Caudwell.
