The Clean Bean launderette
"It's an obvious choice for us to shop around and not see our profits disappear into the pockets of suppliers."
On Bristol's Gloucester Road, one of Britain's most vibrant independent trading communities, you'll find a launderette that's quite unlike most others.
The Clean Bean launderette has evolved to add a coffee shop, free Internet access and a child-friendly garden to its machine washing and dry cleaning services. Owner David Magnus says: "It's not your typical launderette. Most of them are old-fashioned, but we want to make life a bit easier and more fun for everyone involved."
The laundrette's 'merchant services' bill will also be cut by around £300 because it has switched its chip & pin provider to one that charges 50% less to process customer card payments than its previous one.
David recognises that reducing indirect costs is an effective way for businesses like The Clean Bean launderette to boost their bottom line. He adds: "Overheads are much closer to home for us than they would be for a big chain. So it's an obvious choice for us to shop around and not see our profits disappear into the pockets of suppliers."
