Moving premises

When running a successful business, it’s entirely likely that you will constantly be growing. This means that from time-to-time you will need to move premises to satisfy the evolving needs of your business, as well as your growing team. 

When moving premises, it’s important to inform your energy supplier as soon as possible. This will ensure that your contract with them ends smoothly. As soon as you have your move date you should communicate it with your supplier, however if you’ve already moved premises then you should contact your supplier who should have processes in place to help you. On your final day at the premises it’s likely that you’ll be busy, but you should take a moment to contact your energy supplier to provide them with the following information:

  • Your final meter reading

This will help keep your final bill accurate, ensuring that you only pay for the energy that you used while responsible for the property.

  • A new contact address

This will help ensure that your supplier can send you your final bill. It’s worth noting that this new contact address can be your home address, or your new business address.

  • The details of the new tenant of the property, or landlord if it is to remain empty

This will help your supplier transfer responsibility for the property to a new party by setting up a new deemed rate contract in their name for the address.

Once you have provided all of this information, you can expect to receive your final bill within 28-days. If you do not receive your bill, you should contact your old supplier’s customer services department and inform them.

Your final bill might not have been received for a number of reasons, however it’s commonly caused by an error when recording the details for your new address, so it’s certainly worth checking.
