Costly energy bills can be a frustrating expense for small businesses, but not for cycle hire business owner Mark Kirtley.

That's because Mark, who's been running Forest Leisure Cycling in Hampshire's New Forest since 1997, has someone else paying his electricity bills for the year - us.

Free energy for a year

Back in January, Make It Cheaper promised to pay one business's energy bill for a twelve-month period. For a chance to secure the prize, SMEs simply needed to use our service to get a better deal for their gas or electricity.

Mark spoke to one of our saving experts in February, who made it quick and easy for him to get a more cost-effective tariff for his electricity - and now he's bagged the prize, all that energy will be free.

"I thought I'd done pretty well by using Make It Cheaper to help control our costs by switching supplier, but to have won a year's free supply as well certainly eases the pressure of runaway energy prices." - Mark Kirtley

Our Head of Communications, Nick Heath, took a trip to the New Forest to present Mark with a cheque for £837.25, which will cover his bills from the past year.

Mark told us: "I thought I'd done pretty well by using Make It Cheaper to help control our costs by switching supplier, but to have won a year's free supply as well certainly eases the pressure of runaway energy prices."

And Mark's savings won't end there. We'll make sure that his prices aren't unnecessarily high in the future because, like all our customers, we'll be in touch towards the end of his contract to talk about his next electricity deal.

Save and invest

So with Mark's business now benefitting from the extra cashflow, he explained that he plans to employ more seasonal staff for the busy summer months as visitors flock to the New Forest to make the most of the warm weather.

The forest boasts more than 100 miles of traffic-free cycle trails, with plenty of village shops and pubs to visit as you make your way through the quiet country lanes.

If you'd like to enjoy the beauty of the New Forest - as well as support a great local business - get yourself down to Forest Leisure Cycling for a relaxing ride around one of Britain's most fascinating natural spots.
