End of registration for CRC scheme moves nearer
12/08/2010
There is less than two months left until the end of the registration for the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC).
Greg Barker, Energy and Climate Change minister, has been calling on thousands of businesses to register now to start saving money.
Around 1,229 of the organisations required to register have already done so.
"This new coalition government wants to boost energy efficiency in business because we know that saving energy saves money. The CRC will encourage significant savings through greater energy efficiency and importantly will make carbon a boardroom issue for many large organisations," Mr Barker said.
The CRC was launched in April and requires large public and private sector organisations to register with the Environment Agency by September 30th.
Formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the initiative is the UK's mandatory climate change and energy saving scheme administered by the Environment Agency.
"The CRC only affects those on half hourly meters with a 2008 consumption of over six million Kilowatt hours. This means only the 4,000 largest public and private sector organisations so SMEs need not worry. We will be keeping a close eye on how and when the scheme might cascade down to smaller businesses," Jonathan Elliott, managing director of Make It Cheaper, commented.
