Expert backs water reduction campaign

A government campaign aimed at reducing water usage in the UK has been welcomed by an environmental expert.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs initiative is aimed at highlighting simple steps that could be taken, which may help reduce the cost of water for business.
A spokeswoman for charity Waste Watch backed the move, noting that all efforts to conserve resources should be applauded.
She explained that encouraging people to adopt small measures could mean they become habitual behaviour, as was the case for recycling, which has become popular in recent years.
"When people start thinking about things and perhaps making small changes in their behaviour, it gets them into the mindset of doing things," said the specialist.
Commercial water customers could reduce costs by ensuring taps are not left running, as the Energy Savings Trust has noted that this can waste more than six litres per minute.
