SMEs 'should be efficient with data storage'

Business telecoms customers who switch to get the best deals should also be efficient when it comes to data storage, if one firm is to be believed.
Iomega stated there has been a rise in the amount of information companies have to hold on to, meaning it can be a demanding task to find ways of collating this data.
It was reacting to a report by Buffalo Technology, which discovered a number of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are putting their files at risk.
Some 34 per cent of respondents admitting losing data due to misplacing a laptop, while 14 per cent admitted they had not thought about the implications of such a breach.
Business development manager at Iomega Steve Chase suggested savvy firms may move from in-house servers to virtualised solutions.
"They'll have an in-house IT resource manager, so typically they've done it all with a traditional server solution and they will have backed up to that server," he said.
