New meter reading iPhone app for business customers launched

British Gas has launched a new meter reading application for the iPhone that allows customers to check their bills and monitor energy use.
The company revealed version 2 of its application, which it claims makes it easier for customers to keep track of their energy consumption.
Using the application, energy use can also be monitored over time and meter readings can be submitted to avoid estimated bills.
Business customers also have more control over their energy bills, thanks to the launch of the first meter reading application for the UK business market.
Since British Gas became the fist energy firm to offer an iPhone app in November last year, over 100,000 customers have downloaded it to their iPhones.
"The British Gas iPhone App has quickly caught the imagination of our smart phone-savvy customers, who increasingly rely on it to provide a quick and simple way to submit meter readings," Benjamin Braun, Head of Online Services, at British Gas said.
According to Gigaom.com, a growing number of iPhone apps are available or under development to offer users ways to automatically and manually manage home energy use. When the market grows for mobile energy management it is hoped that more will be developed for use by businesses.
