Eon on the verge of cutting energy prices

Eon on the verge of cutting energy prices

25/03/2010

Eon is set to cut its gas prices by six per cent at the end of the month - highlighting the benefits of keeping an eye on business electricity tariffs and switching to the cheapest electricity deal.

According to the firm, the average customer will save £42 a year when the redesigned tariffs come into effect.

On March 31st, Eon's bills will also be easier to understand and the cost reduction will bring Eon's pricing strategy into line with other major business electricity suppliers such as British Gas and Scottish and Southern Energy.

Commenting on the upcoming tariff changes, Eon's retail business Graham Bartlett said: "We've been very aware of the effect of both the recession and the exceptionally cold winter on our customers, so we are pleased to see the opportunity to now reduce prices."

"What we really need to see is a complete overhaul of the UK's energy markets, with genuine competition and transparency in how energy companies set [prices]."

Earlier this year, British Gas was accused of profiteering after reporting record-breaking profits of £595 million for 2009.
