Boiler scrappage scheme 'should be more far-reaching'

The government should extend the boiler scrappage scheme so it encompasses models which are not just G-rated, an expert has suggested.

Nearly half of the vouchers for the scheme have been claimed since it was introduced last month.

Business gas customers are among those who have taken advantage of the opportunity to improve their energy efficiency and reduce bills since the plan was launched by the government at the start of the year.

However, with around 70,000 vouchers still available Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said the plan - currently limited only to G-rated boilers - should be widened to allow more people to benefit.
"Why isn't the government rolling this out to include boilers that aren't just G-rated?" he said.

"It is now an equation for the government to do; how much it is going to cost them versus how much saving they are going to make."
