Coalition's energy record 'slammed'
19/08/2010
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has criticised the coalition government's energy and planning record in its first 100 days in power.
Writing to CBI members, director general Richard Lambert said the coalition has not shown sufficient urgency towards developing a low-carbon infrastructure, which could impact on business energy rates.
Mr Lambert said the CBI was impressed with how the government has attempted to tackle the budget deficit but he added that there were concerns surrounding its approach to making the UK economy low carbon.
"There are lots of stresses and strains to come, and the government is going to have to work very hard to sustain business and consumer confidence in the difficult months ahead.
But CBI members in general are taking a much more positive view of Westminster than was the case a few months ago," he wrote.
The CBI aims to help create and sustain conditions in which UK businesses can prosper both here and abroad.
