Business owners are prioritising energy efficiency when choosing new business premises.

Energy efficiency being pushed higher up companies' agendas

12/08/2010

When choosing potential new premises, business owners are pushing energy efficiency higher up their agenda in order to save money.

Companies that are looking to relocate will benefit from energy saving information that will be made available this December, Dealer Support reported.

From the end of the year it is expected that all commercial properties will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

"The capital value of the exposed inefficient buildings will fall considerably once all commercial properties are obliged to carry an energy efficiency rating on their sales particulars," Marc Blomfield, managing director of The National EPC Company, told Dealer Support.

"If bills are rising, efficiency needs to be made a priority. Making offices sustainable will help companies in the battle against the energy price hike," he added.

Companies have been prioritising the energy performance of their offices following reports published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

These state that energy bills for businesses could rise by 26 per cent in the next decade as a result of the government's comprehensive plan to cut greenhouse gases. ADNFCR-2467-ID-800022473-ADNFCR
