Defra joins carbon reporting drive
04/08/2010
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has become the latest government department to provide details of its business energy use via its website.
It has become the third department to do so, following in the footsteps of the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the Home Office.
"This approach ensures that Defra is transparent about the amount and cost of energy use within the department," Defra said in a statement. "The valuable energy performance data generated will help to raise awareness among Defra staff and provides a further incentive to reduce our energy use."
In the past week, Defra's office in Nobel House, Smith Square, has spent an average of £14.71 per hour on business energy.
An average of 95kg of CO2 has been emitted hourly.
It is expected that other government departments will launch their own energy reporting systems over the coming months.
