Voltage optimisation 'can save business energy costs'

A new technology that acts as a one-stop shop for improving business energy efficiency has been touted as a "huge opportunity" for businesses.
Voltage Power Optimisation (VPO) allows users to micromanage their power supply at the source by reducing incoming voltage to its optimum level, therefore improving the quality of the business energy produced.
In the UK, usually firms' buildings receive business electricity at an average voltage of 242 volts, even though the majority of electrical appliances and equipment run at an optimum level of 220 volts.
"This presents a huge opportunity in UK built environments to save kilowatt hours, because we can optimise power at the point of supply using voltage power optimisation," said Karen Ford, senior executive at powerPerfector, a company that specialises in providing VPO technology.
She added that it would save on business energy, cost and carbon.
"It is installed at the point of the main incomer and improves the distribution to the entire building," she added. Savings on business energy both in terms of usage and cost would then "begin overnight", as soon as VPO installation was complete.
