How to switch your business electricity

Light bulb, coins and utility billYou've come to the right place to find a better deal on your business electricity contract. At Make It Cheaper, we've been saving small businesses money on their electricity bills since 2007. Here are the answers to some questions you might have about how we do it.

How can you make my electricity bills cheaper?

Business electricity is a hugely competitive market, with the Big Six energy companies and a number of smaller, suppliers all vying for your business. These suppliers can offer you a range of different tariffs and benefits, depending on your business' situation.

At Make It Cheaper, our job is to compare the range of tariffs available for your business. Whether you're looking for cheaper prices or great customer service, we can recommend the best tariffs for you.

The savings we can make for you can be huge, depending on the nature of your current contract. You may be surprised to learn that the average saving for a Make It Cheaper business electricity customer is 30%.

Can I switch my business electricity now?

If you want to switch your business electricity, you first need to check your contract end date.

Business energy contracts are usually fixed for a certain term, most often between 1 and 3 years. Throughout this term, your prices won't change, but you'll also be unable to end your contract early without incurring a significant penalty.

This is why you need to wait for your 'switching window' before you can switch to another business electricity supplier. This window varies between different energy suppliers - it can be as long as 4 months or as short as 30 days.

If you're within your switching window, you will be able to switch your business electricity tariff. Energy suppliers are not always proactive about making your renewal window clear, because failure to act means you roll over onto much higher rates when your contract finishes. If you're not sure when your contract is ending, give your energy supplier a call to find out.

If you find out that your renewal rate is some time in the future, let us know and we'll make a note on our system. This means you can forget all about it in the knowledge that we will get in contact when the right time comes. Similarly, if you set up a contract with us, we are motivated to get in touch with you when your contract is due for renewal because we want to help you get the best deal on the next one.

What will it cost to switch my business electricity?

Switching your business electricity contract with Make It Cheaper is free. Simple as that.

How can you offer your electricity switching service for free?

Our service is free of charge because the energy suppliers we work with pay us a small commission when customers sign up. We remain 100% impartial because we are not aligned with any energy companies. Instead, we search the whole market to find the best electricity contracts for your business - and provide you with all the options available.

How do I get my free quote?

If you want to find out how much you could save on your business electricity bills, give our business saving experts a call today on 0800 970 0077. If possible, try to have the following to hand:

  • Your contract end dates
  • A recent business electricity bill
  • Your renewal letter/renewal prices.

Still, don't worry if you don't have these things to hand, because we can still help you.

How do I switch my business electricity?

Once we've found you a business electricity quote that you're happy with, we'll take care of the switching process for you. All you need to do is send a termination letter to your current supplier within your switching window to let them know that you're going to leave them - and that's only if you're switching to a new supplier.

We've provided a template for you. Simply fill in the form and we'll generate a document that you can print out and put in the post.

After this, we'll do all the administration to get you set up with your new contract. If you've moved into new business premises, we can have your supply connected within just 4 - 6 weeks. Alternatively, many of our customers prefer to request a specific date for the supply transfer.

Will my business electricity supply be interrupted?

We can absolutely assure you that your business electricity will never be interrupted.

Your physical electricity supply does not change when you switch. No work needs to take place on your premises to change your supply, so there's no risk of interruption.

In fact, the only thing that does change is the company that's billing you and the size of your bills.

Why should I trust you?

We work with the 'Big Six' business energy suppliers and a whole range of smaller energy suppliers who cater specifically for small businesses. We have strong, direct relationships with each of these suppliers, offering our customers with one of the most comprehensive business electricity switching services on the market. We have a proven track record of saving UK businesses significant amounts on their overheads - you can read some of these saving stories in our case studies section.

And finally, as a small business ourselves, we understand your needs better than anyone. Call us today on 0800 970 0077 to save up to 30% on your business electricity bills.
