Business gas: Boiler scrappage vouchers still up for grabs
15/02/2010
There are still 70,000 boiler scrappage vouchers available to business gas customers looking to trade in for a newer model, the government has announced.
Almost 55,000 homes and businesses have so far taken advantage of the government's boiler scrappage scheme.
However, there are still vouchers worth a total of £28 million up for grabs, the Department of Energy and Climate Change said today (February 15th).
The scrappage scheme was launched in January to upgrade up to 125,000 business and household heating systems in England to cut carbon, save money on fuel bills and sustain work for the heating industry.
Fraser Winterbottom from Energy Saving Trust said he was "extremely pleased" with the response to this scheme.
"It's clear that people are very keen to slash their energy bills and do their bit in helping to cut the UK's CO2 emissions," he added.
However, Charlie Mullins, managing director of Pimlico Plumbers, told the Guardian that the scrappage scheme could prove "financial madness" for many business gas customers whose boilers are already up to scratch.
