The Regal Community Theatre
"...will save our charity up to £8k per year on
energy bills and be on the correct VAT rate as well."
- Location: Bathgate, West Lothian
- Sector: Charity/Arts
- Saving: £21k
The Regal Community Theatre is a busy community arts
centre in Bathgate, West Lothian. It provides a venue for a wide
variety of groups to meet, perform, rehearse and pursue a broad
spectrum of activities.
Gillian Robertson contacted Make It Cheaper soon after joining
the Theatre as a part-time Financial Controller earlier this year
over concerns that the gas and electricity charges were too high.
That call was worth £21,000 because Gillian discovered that, as a
Registered Charity, the theatre is exempt from Climate Change Levy
and its VAT is only charged at 5%. As well as switching onto
cheaper business electricity and gas rates, Gillian has been able
to reclaim substantial amounts of incorrect over-charges.
"I thought you would like to know that all your help and
advice has given our charity a credit note from EON of £6,735
today from our electricity account and £4,887 on our gas
account. I wasn't aware that we could reclaim back 3
years of VAT overpaid and thank you again for telling me how
to reclaim it. The switchover you recommended for us
will save our charity up to £8k per year and we will be on the
correct VAT rate going forward as well. Difficult times are
ahead for everyone, especially charities, so you should feel
good about the valuable job you are doing. I know I will
be a repeat customer."
